Wallachia

Wallachia (or Muntenia – the Mountain country) has got it all, from many points of view! It is the home to the capital city of Romania – the bustling, lively and tricky Bucharest. If you are in Romania just for a few days and Bucharest is your base, everything essential to see here in the south, is in 1-2 hours drive.
The region of Wallachia has some of the widest cultivated planes to be seen in the continent (Campia Romana), known in history as The Breadbasket of Europe. Near Ploiesti you find out about the first oil industry of Europe and the stories of the Romanian moguls of petroleum, in the Neo-Romanian palaces of said moguls,  sipping from a glass of Feteasca Neagra – an award winning local red wine.
If nature never ceases to attract you, a visit to the off the beaten track sights of Vulcanii Noroiosi (Mud volcanoes) in Buzau county is a must. Some people say it feels like being on the moon (but this place in southern Romania is easier to reach, right!?). A sturgeon steak and a glass of white wine, looking at the Danube River, might be just the perfect end for a travel and discover day.
If architecture, palaces and gardens are your thing, then a visit to the first ski resort of Romania – the royal Sinaia, named The Pearl of the Carpathians 100 years ago, is a must.
And, once here, a coffee at Cantacuzino Palace in Busteni, the view from the top of the Carpathian Mountains at Babele Plateau and a look into the Sphinx’s eyes at 2000 meters altitude, will make you want more. Just take Muntenia Step by Step!

Walk with us in the Bucharest old city center.

Bucharest is an amazing, vibrant city with spectacular architecture and great food. You’ll see an unique blend of eastern and western culture without peer in the world. Also, consider visit Bucharest city center at night. The party never stops and you’ll be amazed of how many people are there at the wee hours of the morning.

Take the cable car to the top of Bucegi Mountains

Just 20 minutes from the Peles Castle, if the weather allows it, you can get on the top of the Bucegi mountains (more than 2000 meters altitude) and get to see breathtaking views across the whole Prahova Valley and beyond. If you have a day to spare, you can have a hike on the Bucegi Plateau. Highly recommended.

And of course, Dracula...

You cannot read anything about Romania without Dracula being mentioned. Of course you are curious. And of course, we have the exact cure for your curiosity. Bran Castle, Sighisoara are two of the most famous Dracula related places in Transylvania. If you are lucky (or not) you can even meet him. The word goes that he is not dead yet and Bram Stoker was patent liar.
