Sibiu – the gate to the Saxon Country

Sibiu is one of the original 7 Saxon citadels of Transylvania of the middle Ages. Although extensively restored and prepared for tourism as the European capital of Culture in 2007 Sibiu kept the charm of a small, neat and provincial town. Most of the Old City is inhabited by locals. Many of the 17 th century homes, although some of them converted into hotels, have the 17 th century locks and hinges at the doors!
Come and see the tiled roofs with eyes, the 1 st Art Museum of Central and Eastern Europe (Brukenthal Museum, opened 1817), walk the medieval brick walls, listen to the stories of the German journeymen at the House of Craftsmen, step on the Bridge of Lies!
The Theatre Festival of Sibiu is already famous in Europe and not only, so is the Open Air Museum Astra Sibiului, so are the delicious 100 sarmale you can have when dinning with one of the families in Marginimea Sibiului – one of the richest shepherd communities of the
country.
