A medieval ruler of the area, Stefan cel Mare (Stephen the Great), loved a lot and fought a lot and left as a legacy, the story says, 42 churches and monasteries. Some of them are gathered in Bucovina area, being a part of the UNESCO Patrimony. To see the colors on the walls of Arbore, Voronet, Sucevita, Moldovita, the intricate sculptures of Dragomirna, and have the luck to be the only visitor there that hour, is a privilege. In Agapia monastery, one of the largest convents in Romania, you might find out the answer to what religion means in nowadays world for some people (nuns under 30 years old are living in there)!
The food is to die for in Moldova. So, if you are not on a life diet, let us take you for a local mushrooms stew with sour cream and polenta and a brandy… and the rest you find out here. Viscri, the village Prince Charles made famous
The village of Viscri, or Weisskhirch (in Romanian "white church"), as it was formerly known, is less than two-hour drive from Brasov. The village was included in the UNESCO heritage list in 1999 and features on the world map of traditional villages. The road up there is dotted with plenty of attractions, so if you leave Brasov in the morning, you might only reach Viscri in the afternoon.
