Dobrogea
A hot summer, like any summer in Dobrogea! Silent, the Danube River flows through the endless dusty, golden planes. The narrow roads get lost in fiery red poppy fields. Somewhere around here The Thinker and his wife where discovered (dating back to 5000 BC, copies to be seen in Constanta History Museum). Then the river bends and sinks between miles of vineyards that might have been here 2000 years ago, when the Greek ships discovered the fabulous drink they would start trading. Try the Tears of Ovid, just one of the loved wines of the area, and you will understand why, the Roman poet Ovid, although exiled at the end of the world of that time, did not miss Rome too much.
And this is Dobrogea, one of those yet to be discovered regions of Romania. Home of the second largest port of the continent, Constanta (and the second largest Roman mosaic ever discovered), the oldest mountains of the area – the dusty (but great to bike in) Macin reserve – cradle to a delicious mix of cultures (Greek, Turkish, Armenian, Macedonian and Russian) that gave the placinta dobrogeana (local pie) in all its interpretations, aaand to the one and only Danube Delta!

The village was included in the UNESCO heritage list in 1999 and features on the world map of traditional villages. The road up there is dotted with plenty of attractions, so if you leave Brasov in the morning, you might only reach Viscri in the afternoon.
