Visit the Romanian Atheneum, the country’s most prestigious concert hall with an outstanding acoustics.

The Romanian Athenaeum – built in 1888 with the help of the French architect Albert Galleron – is a magnificent concert hall and a landmark of the Romanian capital city. It boasts perfect acoustics and a portion of the construction funds was raised by public subscription, of which the slogan is still remembered today: “Donate one leu for the Ateneu!”

Revolution Square – the place where infamous dictator Nicolae Ceausescu held his last speech.

Situated exactly near the Bucharest landmarks – Romanian Atheneum and the Royal Palace, Revolution Square was the scene of one of the most amazing moments in the history of television – the moment when an absolute dictator, who ruled uncontested for 25 years, finds – at the same time as the viewers – that nothing is permanent, that his absolute powers are nothing next to the power of the people and that his end is near.

Take a stroll in the Old City Center – the increasingly beautiful, lively old streets of Bucharest.

Bucharest is an amazing, vibrant city with spectacular architecture and amazingly fresh food. You’ll experience a unique blend of Eastern and Western culture without peer in the world. Also, consider visiting Bucharest old city center at night, when the entire neighborhood feels like one big sprawling cocktail party. The party never ends and you’ll be amazed how many people are there at the wee hours of the morning.

Have a beer in Caru cu Bere restaurant – the most famous restaurant in downtown Bucharest, serving Romanian traditional dishes.

With a history worthy of a tragic 19th century novel, with its amazing interior and with its spectacular traditional Bucharest food – a combination of German, Middle – Eastern, French and Russian flavours, not to forget the amazing beer that pours and pours, this is the essence of Bucharest “joie de vivre”.

Enjoy a flavored hookah in Macca-Vilacrosse passage – a spectacular glass covered passage

Macca Vilacrosse passage is a special place – built at the end of the XIXth century, right in the heart of the old town center, and covered with original yellow glass, it’s definitely one of the reasons why Bucharest was once nicknamed Little Paris of the East. This horseshoe shaped passage is today the primary spot of the capital where you can smoke hookah while admiring this beautiful building with French allure.

Be awed by Stavropoleos monastery – the most beautiful Brancovan style nunnery in the historical center

Stavropoleos nunnery could easily be called the jewel in the old town center – it’s a masterpiece of Brancovan style architecture, small in size but with remarkable stone decorations and original frescoes, dating back to 1724. Immerse yourself in the atmosphere by listening to Byzantine music while attending the liturgy in the evening.

Admire Hanul lui Manuc - the last caravanserai in South Eastern Europe

Ever since its foundation, Manuc’s Inn was the meeting place for the Transylvanian, German, Turkish, Bulgarian and Greek merchants and travelers from all over the world. And not only that it was a historic and commercial landmark, but it also hosted important historical meetings regarding local and international economics and politics. Its long and troubled history goes on with the ambitious plans of today’s innkeepers to bring the inn back to its ancient purpose: to be the greatest place for rest, party and memorable encounters.

Architecture, Mystery & History

Our Bucharest City Tours are the perfect mix of sightseeing, fun, mystery & history, and traditional food. We’ll start this Bucharest walking tour at the Romanian Athenaeum, but let’s discuss what’s the most convenient place for you. Then we’ll walk along Calea Victoriei (Victory Avenue). You will learn how to discern between the puzzling architectural mix of Brancovan, Neoclassical, Belle Epoque and Art Deco styles, while discovering the social and economic background of the times when they emerged.

We’ll then enter, walk around and stop in the Old City Center and after that, the old or new Bucharest will no longer be a mystery and you’ll understand a good chunk of what living in Romania means. On our way, we’ll stop at some of the greatest cake shops in Bucharest. I’m very curious if you can resist temptation – I bet you won’t (be warned, the cakes are not included in the price ;).

I asked for a very specific tour of Romanian Orthodox churches and monasteries. Laura customized the itinerary and I was able to see everything that I wanted to see. She was extremely knowledgeable about the sites, was patient wanted to stay longer, etc. She also provided excellent recommendations on where to eat authentic Romanian food and purchase authentic icons. I highly recommend Laura as a tour guide.

We asked her to change the tour plan from the original plan and she was super easy about it and was able to accommodate our request and knew much information about the subject even though it was not preplanned… she was just a wonderful tour guide! We would definitely recommend her as well as use her again!!
